Renaissance Adventure Day:

Thank you so much for supporting this year's Renaissance Adventure Day Fun Run! The program was a huge success and everyone had so much fun! We raised over $45,000 to go towards technology, a shade structure, and support staff!

That is amazing and we could not have done it without your support!

If you haven’t already, please check your email (the one you registered on mybooster.com with) to see if there are any pending donations you need to confirm with the Booster team.

Finally, please encourage your student to thank all of their donors for helping our school this year.

Thank you! Let me know if you have any questions.

Crew Highlights:

In reading, we have been working on create "mental images" or pictures in our mind of what is happening in the story. I will read part of the story, have students tell me what they think it looks like, and then we compare with the actual pictures. This is helping students think more critically about the text. On Thursday, we took a Benchmark Reading Assessment which allows students to show their comprehension of reading passages. Students created test taking goals beforehand and then recorded their results afterwards. Students reflected on their scores, in thinking about what they might need to do better next time (such as listen more carefully to the text, listen more carefully to the questions, or listen more carefully to the answer choices). Hooray for kindergartners setting goals and being reflective learners!

In writing, we have been having fun with labels. First students labelled me. Then we labeled our mountainscape tapistry on our wall. They drew and wrote about Bingham Lake to their 4th grade buddies and added labels (Check it out on Seesaw!). And yesterday, we followed instructions from Mo Willems on how to draw the Pigeon and labelled it. Check these out in Take Home Folders.

In phonics, we have focused on N as our letter of the week. No new sight words were added, so that we could review what we have covered so far: I, can, see, the, like, we, and go. Students practiced making and blending the sounds of words in small groups, such as m-a-n, t-a-n, s-a-t, and m-a-t. Students are showing growth in hearing and identifying the three sounds in these CVC words (consonant, vowel, consonant). Here is our current phonics list.

In math, we have been comparing numbers 1-5. We had done a variety of activities with manipulatives to make sure this baseline is strong. We have been using a five frame to develop number sense. This visual representation allows students to quickly identify and show amounts.

In expedition, we read the All About Me Books of Ms. Zina and Ms. Donna, who work in the lunchroom. Students were amazed that these ladies owned pets, liked pizza, and have families. We have been more vigilant about greet the lunch ladies by name, saying please, thank you, and "have a good day!" We appreciate ALL the members of our crew!

They easily came up with 18 labels for me, and they could have kept going. :D

Labeling our mountainscape.

Learning to draw the pigeon...

and adding labels!

Phonics booklets went home in Take Home Folders. There are some great texts that your child can read and there are activities/games in the back, if you want to reinforce learning at home.

Thank you for helping us to earn Crazy Hat Day!

It was fun to share some silliness while celebrating raising money for our amazing school.

On Thursday, we attended the author visit by Raj Haldar. He was very funny, and even played the guitar. Our crew enjoyed listening to his new book.

Students impressed me with being thoughtful learners in selecting a goal and then reflecting on their progress.

RAD has arrived!
We decorated a Crew Flag!

First up, we got to do an adventure relay
with Mr. Cody, the adventure ed coordinator.

Next up was the FUN RUN!

Great music kept our crew pumped for their run!

Thank you for our awesome spectators that cheered us on!

 What a fun event!

Next up was a community art project with Ms. Staci.

We took a minute to think of the belonging, togetherness, and feeling of CREW that this art project inspired.

Then our crew got to learn about people with different abilities.
In this story, a little girl uses a wheelchair.

The dance-athon was a hit!

Dancing for 30 minutes straight!

At the end of the day, everyone gathered in the gym.

And Ms. Trena announced that we raised...
OVER $45,000!
WAHOOOOOOOOOOOO!

To celebrate, we had a lip sync battle with staff!

You are RAD!

So many highlights of the day!

A HUGE THANK YOU to everyone for making this a successful day-
for fundraising, for volunteering, for cheering, and for making our school
such a ONE-OF-A-KIND place! WE ARE CREW

and now....

HAPPY FALL BREAK!
