Crew News November 2nd, 2023

 Announcements

THANK YOU: I would like to extend a HUGE thank you to:
*Lindsey, our crew parent, for organizing the Halloween crafts
*Eliza, Carrie, Ruston, Sarah, Maggie, Denise, & Lindsey for volunteering to help with crafts
*everyone who donated materials & supplies
*ALL CREW FAMILIES for making this a successful day! Thank you for sending your child in costume with clothes to change into after, thank you for coming to the parade, and thank you for all the warm feedback about this event!

Timeline "home work" Over the Weekend : In Take-Home Folders today is a blank timeline to work on with your child over the long weekend. The goal is to talk about and map important events in your child’s life. There is space for 5 events. You could begin with your child's birth. Other events could include learning to walk, riding a bike, big vacations, moving to a new house, birth of siblings, starting kindergarten, losing a tooth and so on. The last square could be an example of the future- a goal for the future or what they want to be when they grow up. Send these back Monday so that we can share and talk about them. Parents can do the writing and your child can draw the picture. Here is Ms. Bethany's example for reference.

Take Home Folders: A LOT of items went home in Take Home Folders including a phonics assessment, math test, math family letter on our upcoming unit about geometrical shapes, and advertisement fliers. In addition, there was writing, crafts, activities, and coloring that we have done in the last two week for fall, Halloween, and Dia De Los Muertos. Enjoy!

Holiday Adoptions/Giving

Every year during the month of November, Ms. Allison, our school social worker, works tirelessly, with a team of volunteers, to gather donations and gifts for families in our Douglas County community, who might otherwise do without. As a crew, we have agreed to help her secure some items for a few of the families she is seeking to help. If your family might be able to help, please take a look at the Ms. Lauren’s Crew Holiday Giving Family Sign Up and sign up for an item or two that you would be able to purchase and donate.

Please read and follow the directions on the sign up carefully paying special attention to the following:

  • Items must be new

  • Items must be unwrapped

  • Items need to be labeled with the letter/number combo that matches the sign up (with a stickie note)

  • All items must be brought to school (to me) by Monday, November 27th (this is the Monday following Thanksgiving break). There will be a bin next to our snack station (in the hallway next to our door).

Parent Crew Foundation will be hosting a wrapping gathering on December 1st. Look for more information soon if you might be interested in helping to wrap all of these gifts.

If your family might be interested in adopting a family on your own and/or helping Ms. Allison in other ways with this project, please reach out to her for more information: aparmour@dcsdk12.org

If you are interested in learning more about Ms. Allison's Holiday Adoption Program, you can read more here. It is truly touching!

Thank you in advance!

Crew Highlights: Spotlight on Halloween

Boo! Happy Halloween!

Ready for a spooktacular day!
Check Seesaw for your child's Halloween photo. :)

Ta Da! Our morning greeting was showing off our costumes.

Dance Party to the Monster Mash

Parade time!
More photos in the link below.

Then we had our craft party. One station was making monster decorations.

Another station was making Halloween name bracelets.
(Thank you Eliza for all the preparation of sorting beads ahead of time!)

And our last station was Qtip skeltons.

How fun!

Later, we did "monster math" with googly eyes.

With our D5/6 buddies, our crew came up with "magnificent brooms" which was inspired by the beloved book Room On a Broom. Check these out in Take Home Folders.

With our 4th grade buddies, they made Creepy Carrots.
So delightfully creepy! :)

And then we switched our focus to Dia De Los Muertos to learn more about this celebratory holiday that honors the dead. It is a vibrantly colored holiday, usually celebrated with orange marigolds. Since we were unable to find orange tissue paper on short notice, we made red tissue paper flowers.

Coloring pages...

Wow, they turned out great!

Also a big thank you for sending in labeled snow gear and two pairs of shoes. It looks like there is no snow in the forecast, so snow gear can stay at home until next time. They did a terrific job of being independent with putting on their gear, zipping up zippers, and keeping their gear organized throughout the day. Bravo!

What a fun week!
For more pictures of the parade and our craft time,

Enjoy the long weekend, and I will see you Monday!
~Ms. Lauren
