Confirming Our Camp Elim Chaperones: Jason C, Robert S, Zach M, Matt T, Trevor W, Devon C, Jennifer J, Sally M, Cynthia, Kari K, Katie H, & Sarah K. Alternates: Keegan P, Tyler S, Cari R, & Megan H. If anything comes up, please let us know if you are unable to chaperone so that we can invite an alternate.
Sleeping Bag Needed Next Friday: On May 10th, can you please send in the sleeping bag that your child will be using for Camp Elim? We will be practicing stuffing or rolling sleeping bags with a partner. Students will also have the option to use their sleeping bags for solitude. This is always a Crew favorite! Sleeping bags will go home at the end of the day.
Mark Your Calendars: On Thursday June 6th, it is the last day of school. Our school will be dismissing at 1pm, but kindergarten will be dismissing at 12:45. This is a special moment where we tell students about the magic that as soon as they walk out the door, they are BIG FIRST GRADERS. Then there is a few minutes to take pictures and celebrate with families before the rest of the school dismisses. WOW! Can you believe it?
Note from the Office:
Reminders about Carpool Lane
-Please make sure you have a sign in your window listing your student(s) and the crew(s) they are in. Even if you are easily recognizable, it goes so much faster when our caller can just read names off the passenger windows.
-Please continue pulling all the way up in the carline leaving no gaps even if you see your student in a different location. They will walk to meet you. Stopping to load and leaving huge gaps slows down the car line considerably for everyone.

Crew Highlights:
The majority of our reading and math learning time was devoted to our iReady Diagnostic. There are so many celebrations of their growth over the year! I am very proud of how hard our crew worked during the assessment to focus and try their best. We will be sending home iReady results and assessment reports once everyone has completed testing.
In phonics, we learned about our final two letters Z and X. We also spent some time reviewing Q and how when we write words with Q, it is “best friends” with U. We learned about the word families -ock, such as dock, sock, lock, clock, and block. On Wednesday, we took a phonics assessment. This will be in take home folders today. Here is our updated phonics list.
In writing, we are wrapping up our Opinion Writing Unit. Students have enjoyed writing about what they like or think. This week, we experimented with writing with describing words (adjectives) and writing about something they don’t like. Then students selected a piece to “publish” to edit and revise. These pieces will be shared at End of Year Conferences.
In expedition, we are wrapping up Cycles of Weather/Seasons and moving into Life Cycles. Our focus is learning about the sunflower life cycle: seed, seedling, sprout, adolescent sunflower, and sunflower. Then today, students planted their very own sunflower seed! Students received a Sunflower Log to track their growth. They will be in charge of watering their seeds each day. We look forward to watching them grow!
A sweet connection: These are the seed from the sunflowers that last year's kindergarten crew. :)
Ask you child about their prediction of how tall the sunflowers will grow. :)
With our 4th grade buddies, we read books about weather and lifecycles.
What a great turnout for Community Reading! Thank you for making this such a special tradion this year.
Practicing for the Elephant & Piggie performances on May 31st.
We have gone from two friends leading the drum circle to one. Bravo Crew!
We sang Happy Birthday to Ms. Trena!
Happy Birthday Jack!
Next week, we look forward to beginning our preparation for Camp Elim and getting ready for our Overnight Voyage!
Have a wonderful weekend!
