Holiday Giving Wrapping Party- This Saturday

Thank you once again for all of your generosity as we helped Ms. Allison with her annual Holiday Giving project. It’s now time to wrap all of the gifts! If you/your family (kids are invited too) might be up for doing an act of service and kindness on Saturday morning, please consider signing up to help get all of the gifts, tagged, wrapped, sorted, and more.  Sign up here

(Repeated for Reference)

ACTION ITEM: Conference Questionaire: Before our conference, can you please fill out this short Google form? This helps me prepare for our time together.

First Semester Parent Teacher Conferences:
Here is a link to our First Semester Conference Sign Up, that will be taking place in December. It will be a 20 minute time slot, where I can share celebrations of learning for this first half of the year. Please bring your child to this conference. The conference will start with time for your child to pridefully share with you things in our room and examples of best work. Then we can meet to talk more specifically about growth and next steps. Wow- you are going to be amazed to see such tremendous growth!

Q&A
-I prefer not to have siblings in the room so that the focus can be on your child. However, if there are no other options, then I understand.
-If you EVER have a concern, please email me. We do not have to wait until conferences if there is something you would like to discuss. :)
-In addition to conferences, you will be getting a EPR (Electronic Progress Report) before Winter Break. This is the more formal way that teachers share out learning, but you will find our parent conferences to be where you get more specific, personalized information.
Looking forward to this time together!
~Ms. Lauren

Crew Highlights:

I am SO proud of how hard our crew has worked this week! We have mostly completed iReady diagnostic testing in reading and in math. Additionally, the crew worked on a BEST letter/number formation sample and a BEST example of indepedent writing. We look forward to sharing all of this with you at conferences and compare them to our August samples- it is quite impressive!

During phonics, our letter of the week was O and we added he and has to our sight word list. Students work on identifying /o/ at the begining of the word or in the middle of a word. Students worked on decoding words, such as hot, top, pot, on, and not. Here is the Updated Phonics List.

Our most fun learning this week was in expedition. Our crew is LOVING to learn about prairie dogs. We have spent a lot of time reading books and recording new facts in our Expedition Notebook. With 4th grade buddies, they did some reading and recording of new learning. Be sure to ask your child to tell you a few new facts!
Here were some favorite facts to learn:
*A prairie dog family is called a coterie.
*Prairie dog burrows have different rooms called chambers. They have a sleeping chamber, nursery chamber, and even a restroom chamber!
*Prairie dogs eat grass, seeds, and insects.
*They have really sharp teeth.
*Prairie dogs don't drink water.
*A baby prairie dog stays underground for its first 6 weeks.
*It takes 1 year for a prairie dog to become an adult.
*Prairie dogs live 3-4 years.
*Prairie dogs will often kiss to greet each other.
*Prairie dogs can work together to scare off a snake (and even bury it in a hole!)
*Prairie dogs play together.

Next week, we have an expert guest speaker coming in to talk and answer questions about prairie dogs. She is a Natural Resources Specialist for Douglas County. We look forward to learning more! Here are some of the questions we want to ask.

Here are a few snapshots of their time with 4th grade buddies to learn and write new facts about prairie dogs.

Today, we had the honor of helping to wrap and make cards for the families that were collected for the Holiday adoption/gift giving. The crew loved being part of this service project that will touch the hearts of over a hundred families in Douglas County this holiday season.

WOW! By the end of the day, the presents were stacked in boxes all over the library.
Can't love this more!

I stopped by music to listen to "Owlet" with Ms. Liesl. How beautiful!
Click here to check it out.

And now it is December! Oh my, time flies!
Have a lovely weekend,
~Ms. Lauren
